Size and Weight of the Cardigan Welsh Corgi

In order to gain a better understanding of the current size and weight of the Cardigan Corgi, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Association invited the exhibitors at the annual Championship Show in September 2012 to have their dogs measured and weighed. A total of 50 dogs participated and when calculating averages, it was decided to exclude any dogs under the age of 2 years.

The average male weight was 17 kg (37.5 lbs.) and the average height was 30.8 cm (12 in.)
The average bitch weight was 15 kg (33 lbs.) and the average height was 30.7 cm (12 in.)
The heaviest dog was 22 kg (48.5 lbs.) and the heaviest bitch was 16.85 kg (37 lbs.), while the tallest dog was 33 cm (13 in.) and the tallest bitch 32 cm (12½ in.)
However, in both cases the heaviest were not the tallest!
(English values are approximate.)

Often dogs that were "thought" bigger were in fact smaller than their image portrays. And those with fuller, more open coats could appear much bigger than those with the close tight coats.

Thus the assumption that many of today's dogs are oversize has been proven untrue. There are, of course, variations within the breed but not as much as perceived by some people.
